Chesterfield Valley used to be called Gumbo Flats. It is river-bottom farmland along the Missouri. On July 30, 1993, a section of the Monarch agricultural levee broke. The valley filled. It had not flooded since 1935. People who lived through it remember the water covering Highway 40.
The city rebuilt. Officials marketed the valley as "Chesterfield of Dreams." The Monarch-Chesterfield Levee is now built to a 500-year standard. Retail, offices, Spirit of St. Louis Airport, The District, and The Factory sit on that floor. Highway 141 is the practical cut. East of 141 you more often find older trees and streets that were here before the outlets.
Leicester and Mary Plant Faust donated the first acres of Faust Park in 1968. The park is now about 200 acres. The Historic Village holds buildings moved from Chesterfield and nearby, built between 1840 and 1908. The St. Louis Carousel has 65 carved animals and two chariots. Howard Ohlendorf donated it to the county in 1963. The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House opened at Faust Park on September 18, 1998. It became a division of the Missouri Botanical Garden in 2001.
Annie Gunn's and the Smokehouse Market sit on the Olive side of the city. Rockwood and Parkway both serve parts of Chesterfield. Confirm the high school on the district lookup.
The Minifig Shop opened a second location at The District, 17057 N. Outer 40, on August 15, 2026. The original shop is still at 200 S. Kirkwood.
