Jefferson County was organized in 1818 and named for Thomas Jefferson. It runs south of St. Louis County along the Mississippi and I-55. Arnold is the northern door. Imperial and Mastodon State Historic Site sit just down the highway. Festus and Crystal City are a small-city pair with their own Main Street. Pevely and High Ridge are their own pins.
Mastodon State Historic Site holds the Kimmswick Bone Bed. Scientists found the first solid evidence in eastern North America that people and American mastodons lived at the same time. The site is in Imperial.
This is still the metro. Big-box retail, ball fields, and towns you can find on a weather map. It is also longer north to south than people expect on a first Saturday. Fox C-6 covers a large share of Arnold and Imperial. Windsor C-1 is its own Imperial and south Arnold pocket. Festus R-6 serves Festus and Crystal City. Confirm the district on the district lookup.
The draw is space. The same payment often buys a real yard and an extra bedroom compared with inner St. Louis County. The cost is the I-55 clock. Drive it at the hour you would actually drive it.
