Maryland Heights grew up after World War II along Dorsett, Page, and I-270. It is a patchwork of old villages, farms, post offices, and train stops. Settlers from Maryland named the rolling hills. Goke Real Estate formalized the name in 1914. The city incorporated in 1985 after nearby towns started annexing land. Edwin L. Dirck was the first mayor. The city covers about 23 square miles.
Westport Plaza opened just to the south in 1971. Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park, the county's first park, sits in this city even though the lake keeps the Creve Coeur name. Pattonville serves a lot of addresses. Some pins sit in Parkway. The next house can be a different line.
